Probate and Juvenile Court Information
Probate Court
Athens County Court of Common Pleas, Probate Division is commonly called Probate Court. The jurisdiction of Probate Court is described in Ohio Revised Code Section 2101.24. Functions include settling of estates, granting marriage licenses, and guardianship of individuals who might be mentally impaired. The Court operates in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code and rules governing the courts of Ohio.
Juvenile Court
Athens County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division is commonly called Juvenile Court. The jurisdiction of Juvenile Court is described in Ohio Revised Code Section 2153.23. The Court considers complaints prepared by the Athens County Prosecutor or transferred from another jurisdiction alleging a juvenile (under age 18) might be a traffic offender, delinquent, unruly, abused, neglected, or dependent. The Court operates in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code and rules governing the courts of Ohio.
