First Offender Program
This diversion program is designed to motivate young people to adopt more appropriate behavior without formal court filing or further court action.
A juvenile alleged to be unruly or delinquent via a complaint prepared by the prosecuting attorney may be eligible for consideration without a court hearing if there has been no prior offense. An eligible complaint may allege a first unruly or misdemeanor offense that does not involve use of a weapon, a sex offense, or use of drugs at school. The court may assign other youth to the diversion program after allegations are filed and heard in court but prior to adjudication.
The diversion coordinator interviews youth to consider constructive alternatives to further court action. The youth and family sign an agreement to complete individualized program requirements Successful completion results in dismissal of the allegation.
